AMD Announces Transformative Partnership with Blockchain Gaming Alliance
Earlier this month, AMD became the first hardware manufacturer to join the Blockchain Gaming Alliance. The move could effectively transform the gaming industry, bringing more variety, flexibility and security to the table for gamers and game publishers alike.
While blockchain is already being deployed in markets like finance and banking, it remains a relatively new technology within the gaming industry. The AMD announcement is set to change that, and the hardware company hopes to offer Blockchain Gaming Alliance members solutions that will transform the way games are created, published, purchased and played. The Alliance seeks to drive awareness and adoption of blockchain technologies and solutions within the gaming industry, offering an open forum for collaboration and networking as well as the promotion of common standards and best practices.
“Blockchain technology brings broader choice, security and flexibility to both gamers and publishers,” said Joerg Roskowetz, head of blockchain technology at AMD. “Next-generation blockchain game platforms will give gamers access to exclusive online content, and provide new ways for them to truly own it. They will also provide game publishers with new channels to distribute digital game content.”
One of the most interesting aspects of AMD’s announcement is its partnership with Ubisoft, the company responsible for wildly popular games like Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six Siege and Just Dance.
“The Blockchain Game Alliance is gathering some of the world’s top blockchain innovators and content developers to bring players the best of what this technology has to offer,” said Nicolas Pouard, blockchain initiative director at Ubisoft. “We’re delighted to work with AMD, and other alliance members to determine the role of blockchain in the entertainment experiences of the future.”
AMD also announced partnerships with Robot Cache, which offers an online gaming Marketplace, and ULTRA. The latter company plans to launch its own online gaming marketplace within the next few months, and both platforms will use AMD Ryzen processors and AMD Radeon graphics cards to offers optimal cryptographic computer performance. Robot Cache will also use AMD EPYC processors in its back-end servers, while ULTRA will use EPYC processors to facilitate block producing for its blockchain initiative.
As the number of companies and industries taking advantage of blockchain continues to grow, organizations are seeking more information about the technologies and opportunities surrounding the blockchain phenomenon.
