Blockchain Sets Original Source Court Recording Verification Standard

August 04, 2020

In order for evidence to appear in court, the chain of custody must be irrefutable. Blockchain technology is now being used to assist in these efforts. As this secure and precise technology matures, so too do the volumes of use cases.

Digital court recording firm For The Record announced a new patent for verifying recordings leveraging blockchain technology.

The biggest benefit of the patent is the ability to verify recording authenticity via immutable digital ledger without having to reveal recording details. The advancement is a natural next step for a company providing court recording technology for 25 years.

Accuracy is mission critical in court recordings, and with patent comes a new bar for original source recording integrity and a step toward a new industry standard.

“As digital audio and video proliferate across all areas of justice and public safety, so do concerns around manipulation of that media as editing technology becomes more accessible and capable,” said Tony Douglass, one of the world’s leading experts in digital court recording and President of For The Record. “All levels of justice will need safeguards in place to ensure the integrity of original source recordings and blockchain provides a unique ability to immediately identify if recordings have been altered.”

Justice is the search for truth; accurate, unadulterated recordings play Picasso in painting a picture of events and actions.
